Inside the Android 13 QPR2 second beta Recently released by Google for Pixel smartphones there are a couple of hidden news inside the code pertaining to the screen recording and the eSIM profile transfer from one device to another. These are functions not yet available but whose presence in the strings suggests a forthcoming release on the stable version.
VIDEO RECORDING
Record video of android smartphone means capture all the contents displayed on the screen, including personal information or information not related to the content you want to share. This understandably entails a privacy issue that the user is asked to solve in post-production by manually obscuring what he does not want to be shown.
Inside the new Android 13 QPR2 beta is hidden one function that will allow you to register only the selected app, thus avoiding capturing all the contents displayed on the screen. The video reported by 9to5Google gives a good idea of what we can expect:
Share or record an appor Share or register an app, it will allow you to select the desired content while maintaining privacy on everything else. The function could be released as early as March, when Google will make Android 13 QPR2 available in a stable version.
ESIM
A second feature hidden in the beta concerns the ability to transfer your eSIM profile from one Android smartphone to another, exactly as it already happens on the iPhone. Currently, the transfer of the eSIM can take place between two different devices (Android) only if the profile is first deactivated on the smartphone in use, and then reactivated on the new one. The unprecedented function would make it possible to simplify – and not just – the process, without even the need to contact your telephone operator.
You might soon be able to transfer an eSIM profile from an old Android phone to a new phone, or convert a profile on a physical SIM card into an eSIM profile. Support for transferring profiles is being implemented in Google’s SIM Manager app the LPA on Pixel and many GMS devices.
- euicc: embedded universal integrated circuit card (software component of the eSIM)
- qs: QuickSetup
It cannot be excluded that this function may remain exclusive to Pixel smartphones. In addition, it is possible that Google allows Android users to convert a physical SIM into an eSIM profile in the same way when switching to another smartphone: however, here the limitations could concern both the device model and the telephone operator.
