ASUS China General Manager Tony Yu stated that the series of processors AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 expected to hit the market in the second half of this year. These will be the first workstation chips based on the Zen 4 architecture.
While there’s still no official confirmation from AMD, a launch around this time of year wouldn’t be surprising. The new solutions of intel managed to catch up with the Threadrippers that have dominated the industry for a few years now, and the company needs to respond.
Intel’s new Sapphire Rapids proposals fill this gap by providing even more powerful solutions than the 5000 series Threadripper. Furthermore, Intel is currently the only one supporting the new DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0.
In turn, AMD’s new platform will also accompany the launch of new processors, as the TR4 socket is not able to support CPUs based on the new architecture. Therefore, we can expect more news from AMD.
As in the past, the new Threadrippers should also be divided into two ranges, one for consumption and the other for professionals. The first aimed at high-end computing should offer 64 PCIe 5.0 lanes and quad-channel DDR5 memories.
In the case of the (probable) Threadripper PRO, PCIe 5.0 lines can double to 128, plus DDR5 support, but in an 8-channel configuration. Anyway, we need to wait for more official information from AMD about the Threadripper 7000 series.
