Amazon has announced a new version of the Echo Dot that includes a temperature sensor. An acceleration sensor is also new.

Amazon is launching a new Echo Dot with a temperature sensor: the new version of the smallest Alexa speaker is said to be able to handle additional routines. According to Amazon, it will be possible to automatically switch the fan on or off when a certain temperature is reached in a room.

Also new is an acceleration sensor. It not only starts when the Dot is smashed against the wall, but is primarily intended to open up tap gestures on its surface. Users should be able to simply tap on the top of the echo to carry out context-dependent actions – for example stopping music playback, turning off the alarm clock or hanging up a call.

In addition, the new Echo Dot should come onto the market with a revised sound architecture. In the same spherical design as the previous fourth-generation Dot, the new Dot is intended to provide clearer voices and, according to Amazon, “twice as much bass”.

All innovations apply to both the standard Dot and the Dot with LED display. The latter also gets an improved screen that should display more information than before. In addition to the time, song titles, artist names or the weather can be displayed. The new Echo Dot can be ordered from Amazon for 60 euros, the display variant is ten euros more expensive. Amazon now also offers the much larger Echo Studio in white.

Amazon has also announced a new feature for its voice assistant Alexa, which can be accessed on the Echo devices. In the future, you should be able to ask Alexa to carry out certain smart home actions at a predefined time. In the future, you can tell Alexa to switch off the light after ten minutes or to switch on the coffee machine automatically at 6 a.m. The feature should be available “in the coming months”.
