Announced for the Europeian market at the beginning of last June, the Bip 3 is the newest representative of the Amazfit watch family, being another chapter written by the Xiaomi subsidiary.

But will the new smartwatch be able to maintain the line’s good reputation while sustaining its more affordable price? You can find this and much more in our full review below.

construction and design

Available to the public in black, blue and pink, the Bip 3 maintains the design line that we are used to seeing for this family of watches, bringing the square format that was popularized by Apple.

Shipped in a long, thin box, complete with charging base and manuals, the watch is waterproof and quite light, barely noticeable when worn on the wrist.

Equipped with a silicone bracelet and a case that mixes hard plastic and the screen’s glass, here, we have the same pattern as other similar watches of the brand, with an activation/back button on the right side and sensors for measuring body indices on the back.

In addition, keeping what we have already seen in other Amazfit devices, changing bracelets is quite simple, just resorting to the pins located at the ends of each side.

But let’s go to one of the main points of this category: the screen. Here, we have a 1.68-inch display with TFT technology with a pixel density of almost 220 ppi; which, as you might expect, doesn’t bring truly black blacks or the best definition.

Anyway, despite not bringing sensors for automatic brightness balance, the viewing experience is satisfactory even in direct sunlight – as long as the brightness is at maximum. In addition, despite not being able to see the screen pixels, one or another interface item reveals a certain aliasing, delivering the lower density.

But don’t be fooled! The whole set is quite harmonious, as we have seen in past generations, and the sum of design and construction results in a competent set that should please most potential users.

System

But designing aside, let’s talk about who makes the machine run, the system! In this aspect, for those looking for a complete smartwach, the Bip 3 can be a bucket of cold water. For those who expected a continuation of past generations, it’s not so much news.

Here, we have something very similar to what is seen on an activity monitor, such as the Huawei Band 7 – which we have already analyzed here, making it possible to follow your body indices in training sessions and during your daily activity, viewing your heart rate, blood oxygenation levels, stress, steps taken, hours slept and, in the case of women, the menstrual cycle; but nothing much more than that.

In the case of training, there are more than 50 modalities available, ranging from walking and running outdoors, to more specific modalities such as dance, BMX, strength training and yoga. Don’t expect, however, to find that much variety – since despite being water resistant up to 5 ATM, the watch doesn’t have any swimming-related modality.

At least, the model sold in Europe has an integrated GPS. Thus, all activities performed outdoors can have their routes traced by the watch, so that they can then be viewed in the app.

Be careful, however, if you are considering importing the model. Outside, some versions of the Bip 3 do not have GPS, with this functionality being reserved for the Pro variant.

Application

But leaving those nuances behind, let’s talk about it, the application. Here, we have exactly the same experience that we are used to seeing for other devices from Xiaomi and its subsidiaries – as is the case with Amazfit.

With the Bip properly connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth, the user can view all the information collected by the watch through Zeep. The app is capable of keeping a complete history of the user’s data, keeping a record of steps taken, physical activity sessions performed, heart rate, stress and oxygenation rates, etc.

In addition, the application also allows the user to make more advanced adjustments in what involves taking measurements, setting alarms and objectives, and choosing new displays for the screen.

Apart from the standard watch face, it is possible to choose and sync a new watchface from a “store” built into Zeep itself. This one has many options available, with dials divided into a wide variety of categories.

Drums

Equipped with a 280 mAh battery that can be charged in just under 2 hours, the Bip 3’s autonomy is certainly a highlight.

In our tests, with moderate use, following a large part of the body indices all the time and with six 1-hour training sessions, the watch was able to withstand just over 15 days away from power outlets; brand slightly bigger than the one promised by Amazfit itself.

Therefore, for those who use the watch even less, it is likely that the number of days off the charger is even greater. For those who demand the most, with constant GPS activations, for example, this mark is likely to be cut to something around 7 days – a value that can still be considered positive if we compare some wearables in the same price range.

Conclusion

But then, is the Amazfit Bip 3 worth it or not?

Without a doubt, the watch is great value for money for those who are looking for an activity monitor, but who do not like the design of smartbands, preferring to stay within the format popularized by Apple for their smartwatches.

It has a good construction and a concise design, integrated GPS that adds up a lot for those who like to do outdoor activities, and a great autonomy, capable of guaranteeing that you will have a few good days away from the sockets.

But he’s not perfect. Aside from the screen that could deliver a little more definition and the absence of a dedicated sensor to automatically control brightness, the Bip 3 is not, in fact, a smartwatch; so don’t expect the functions built into it to be extended much further.

Therefore, within what they propose, the new Amazfit watch can be considered a great option, rivaling in price and functions with some of its direct competitors, such as the realme Watch 2 and Philco HIT PSW01P, and winning stand out even in front of the famous smartbands.
