Cunning fraudsters are targeting AIB customers in this new text scam.
Bank users have reported receiving text messages pretending to be from the bank saying: “A payment instruction of €2,730 was made to an M Hassan on 11/10/2021.
“If you don’t recognise this payee please follow this link,” which is followed by a suspicious-looking link.
Customers have received these scam texts from +353 89 6119 842.
Here are some tips you can follow to avoid falling prey to such cons:
- Always check the validity of a text by contacting the bank on a number you can find on either the back of your bank card, bank statements, or their website.
- Never click on suspicious-looking links. If in doubt you can always ring the bank and ask them for more information.
Dublin Live has contacted AIB for a comment.
A spokesman for AIB said: “At AIB we are committed to protecting customers against the threats associated with internet and other types of fraud.”Fraudsters are targeting people by sending text messages claiming to be AIB and/or other legitimate companies.
