A bigger iMac with a new chip is on the way

The next-generation all-in-one is expected to replace the 27-inch iMac with an even larger screen, perhaps around 30 inches, and it could well be Apple’s fastest desktop to date.

Apple Silicon has already appeared on the line iMacBut for now it’s only available inside the new 24-inch model, launched in April with an ultra-slim design, better speakers, and Touch ID.

The device has been well received by users and reviewers, but fans of bigger screens have been waiting for Apple to introduce a bigger and more robust alternative. Gurman says such a team is now “on the way.”

“I still absolutely believe that a larger, redesigned ‌iMac‌ to replace the 27-inch Intel models is on the way.”Gurman wrote in the latest issue of his newsletter Power On.

“Apple’s increase in screen size from the smallest model from 21.5 inches to 24 inches seems to indicate that the 27-inch model could also have a size increase. However, I don’t think Apple will release the larger model with the same M1 chip that is in the smaller model. “

Gurman said it is “probable” than the biggest iMac around “An M1X, the most robust version of the current M1 or an M2X”. Like the 24-inch version, it could also feature a slimmer design and other great improvements.

Gurman does not go into details about the possible chip update, and has not yet offered a possible release date for the new equipment. It is not clear if Manzana You could be planning to launch the device this year or in 2022.

What’s next for the Apple Silicon chip?

A May rumor about the M1X chip claimed that it could feature 10 processing cores and up to 32 cores for graphics. The existing version of the M1 has eight CPU cores and up to eight for graphics.

These enhancements could make the largest iMac one of Cupertino’s most powerful computers to date. The machine should easily outperform the current 27-inch iMac, last updated in August 2020.
