Pixel 6a, the fingerprint reader recognizes anyone: big problem on the horizon?

The Google Pixel 6a fingerprint reader seems to struggle to say “no”. And it is not a small problem, because the smartphone will be available to everyone from July 28th, therefore the bizarre behavior of the unlocking system could become a real case when there will not only be units destined for the press around (we have one us too) but the thousands sold to as many “common” users.

As some videos posted on the net show, the on-screen fingerprint reader of some Pixel 6a recognizes even unregistered fingerprints. Which is quite worrying if the unregistered but recognized fingerprint is still owned by the owner, it is very worrying if, as seen in another video, it also opens the doors of the phone to third parties, therefore a little to anyone. In fact, on one occasion a user manages to unlock the phone with his left thumb despite the memory footprint being that of the right one, on another occasion the Pixel 6a being tested recognizes a series of friends as if their “biological pass” were the same.

POSSIBLE GRAIN A FEW DAYS FROM SALES

There has been a lot of talk about the fingerprint reader in the display of the new Google mid-range in recent months. The company wanted to put the difficulties behind the Pixel 6 player, the slowness complained by many species just after launch. So for Pixel 6a it was decided to start from scratch, with a reader in new display and on paper even faster. The step forward compared to the Pixel 6 reader (not the Pixel 6 Pro, which has a faster one) we also noticed during the days we spent with it, we wrote it in the review, and we didn’t notice any oddities. The problem, if any, should be software.

Before we put this article online, we made a further attempt, and the Pixel 6a on test firmly rejected any unauthorized access. Is this a further grain for Google? We can’t tell. Ours works great, which obviously doesn’t make statistics, but equally we can’t verify the attempts of the videos that have set the web in turmoil. If there is any truth, Google would do well to run for cover quickly before the case swells and feeds the reputation of a “careless”, “clumsy” company that Google has found itself entangled in in recent years because of its own. lightness.
