Ed Sheeran kicked off his time in Ireland in style yesterday by enjoying a few pints in south Dublin.

The UK singer is performing in Croke Park this weekend in the first full capacity gigs in the stadium since Covid-19.

He was in the Sandycove area last night and ate dinner at Rasam Restaurant before stopping by Fitzgeralds of Sandyove for a drink.

Fitzgeralds co-owner Will Agar told Dublin Live that he and his staff weren’t expecting Ed to walk through the door last night.

“He was in Rasam, an Indian restaurant on the Glasthule Road,” Will said.

“They recommended the Guinness up here and said if he wanted a local kind of pint then to drop up here.”

Will said that Ed got behind the bar and was pouring pints for everyone.

“Normally if a celebrity comes in then we try to leave them alone to do their own thing but he wanted to have a bit of a buzz,” he said.

“He asked to pour pints and he was having Jaeger bombs with us, it was great craic.

“He’s one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever come across to be honest.

“He was more than willing to have a bit of fun. So he was pouring a couple of pints of Guinness, a couple of pints of Island Edge and he poured the Jaeger Bombs for all of us before he realised he didn’t get me one so he had to do a second one.

“It was just a bit of craic.”

Will recently bought Fitzgeralds after working as a barman there for 18 years.

The legendary pub was put up for sale in February 2020 and Will and his business partner purchased it at the beginning of this year.

“There has been a lot of support from locals which is great,” Will said.

“A few of the old staff have come back as well so the old crew have gotten back together. We have an amazing group of staff at the moment.”
