If new films and television series are to come, they announce themselves like shooting stars before the big meteor. So are two new Star Trek items.

The US film studio Paramount has published a tiny insight into the evolution of the Star Trek universe on the occasion of Comic Con, which is currently taking place in New York. Dark, technical atmosphere, snippets of dialogue, faces pregnant with meaning, rapid flights in dusty desert air, explosions, handguns drawn, oriental atmosphere and a Rubik’s Cube made of milk chocolate.

A firework of impressions, as is usual in teasers, with which film studios dare the high-wire act of whetting their audience’s appetite without revealing too much at the same time. This is about the fifth season of Star Discovery, one of the youngest offshoots of the space utopia dreamed up by Gene Roddenberry in the 1960s. After the few words that can be heard in the trailer, protagonist Michael Burnham embarks on a quest for the greatest treasure in the known universe.

It is not yet clear when the fifth “Discovery” season will start in Germany. It will probably be shown on the in-house streaming platform Paramount +, which is to be launched on the Internet in this country next December. Another Star Trek offshoot is already planned for them called “Strange New Worlds”, in which a certain Captain Christopher Pike is supposed to lead the Enterprise.

A further wild growth in the franchise universe called Star Trek has even sent a third trailer these days. The veteran Jean-Luc Picard wants to jet through space again in a third season, solve problems and needs a spaceship for that. In line with the advanced age of those people who fell in love with the philosophers in the captain’s chair in the 1980s, this trailer is much more leisurely and shows some familiar faces who have aged with it.

In the United States, the latest and probably final season of “Star Trek: Picard” can be seen from mid-February. Also on Paramount+, which is constantly striving to further surpass the complexity of the Star Wars world in the Disney+ rival channel.
