I am 18 0-day vulnerabilities identified by Project Zero in the Exynos modemfour of these – including CVE-2023-24033 – allow an attacker to remotely compromise a smartphone without the user noticing. The only information the hacker needs to have is the phone number of the victim of the attack.

[…] we believe skilled attackers would be able to quickly create an operational exploit to compromise affected devices silently and remotely.

Google communicates that the other 14 vulnerabilities are believed to be less serious because “they require a malicious mobile network operator or an attacker to have local access to the device“.

On Pixel 7 and 7 Pro the CVE-2023-24033 vulnerability has already been corrected with the March patches, but be careful because Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a are still vulnerable as they are not yet updated with the latest security patches. However, update release times for all other devices depend on each individual manufacturer. Google recommends turn off WiFi and VoLTE calling until the update is received.
